House System
All students are members of one of our four “Houses”, which are named after local rivers: Avon, Frome, Severn and Trym.
Each tutor group belongs to one of these Houses, and our Heads of House run a yearly programme which dovetails with the Tutor Time and the fortnightly Assemblies calendar. The House is like an extended family, and aims to engender a sense of belonging and to provide opportunities for personal development, as well as promoting the school values and British values.

House Champions
Houses compete in the annual House Championships, through a range of competitions, including Sports Day and the Tug-of-War which take place every year, and other events which change annually, for example:

Students also receive positive House Points for demonstrating the school values of aspiration, respect, integrity and responsibility, and these also contribute to the scoreboard for the House Championships - in July each year there is a reward day for the winning House.
House Mascots
Each House has a mascot – these were originally chosen by students as creatures with alliterative names that also have qualities that students see as desirable:

Mascot costumes are worn by Year 11 students who are chosen to be leaders amongst their peers to help grow House spirit and encourage participation!
Broader Aims and Personal Development
We aim to bring the fun factor to school by enhancing the curriculum with further opportunities for students to grow beyond their academic studies. Whilst the Pastoral Progress Leads work with year groups, the Heads of House have the privilege of seeing our students progress through their whole time at school.
We liaise with other staff in appointing students to leadership positions, for example the Anti-Bullying Ally Leaders and Senior Students, and we help students to build their Personal Profile, which is awarded to each individual at the ‘Moving On Assembly’ at the end of Year 11 – this is a folder which records their achievements and participation in broader school life, and which students use to keep certificates, their Curriculum Vitae and other relevant documents, such as our in-school Employability Award, and which they can take to interviews to help them present themselves as rounded citizens of the future, ready to take their place in the world.
