Every Child Matters at
Chipping Sodbury School
Following a recent Ofsted inspection, Chipping Sodbury School was
judged to be a school where standards are improving and one where
every child matters.
The 2-day inspection took place in December and the school was said
to give satisfactory provision overall with some good aspects.
Students were described as enjoying coming to school and their
attitudes to school and to lessons were good. The Inspectors
commented ‘The students are well cared for and this contributes to
their desire to do well.’ Good relationships between students and
staff were evident and the school was seen to give good personal
support and guidance. Teaching across the whole school was reported
as satisfactory with a positive atmosphere in classrooms. The report
recognised improvements in the quality of teaching which has
contributed to the rise in students’ achievements. Additional
learning support was also recognised to help a number of children at
the school.
Ofsted’s report stated that the school’s governors contributed
effectively to the direction of the school and that the school’s
senior team provide high profile, sensitive and determined
leadership. The Inspector also praised the school for its rigorous
self-evaluation process which had identified key issues for
inclusion in the school improvement plan.
Philip Lidstone, Headteacher, said: “We are all delighted with the
report. The report shows that we have made good progress and we are
clear about the direction the school is taking to achieve higher
standards in the future. I am also pleased that the vast majority of
parents are very happy with the school and all it offers.”
The school’s Chair of Governors, David Stimpson, added: “The
governors are very pleased that the report highlighted so many of
the school’s strengths. We are committed to the continued rise in
standards.”
