All
students in Chipping Sodbury School are given specialist ICT lessons
in Key Stage 3. They are taught the skills and knowledge to make
informed judgments about the use of ICT and acquire a range of
technical skills. They have a one hour ICT lesson per cycle in Year
7 and one hour per week in Years Eight and Nine. At Key Stage 4
students can opt for a traditional GCSE in ICT or a vocational
iMedia course.

Throughout Key Stages 3 and 4
students apply their ICT skills and knowledge in other subject
areas, using ICT as an aid to their learning. A good example is the
Design and Technology department who have specific objectives
relating to the delivery of the control elements of the ICT
curriculum through specialist knowledge and equipment in that
subject area.

KS4
From September 2006, students’ Level
2 choices include the ICT GCSE (OCR Syllabus A) Full Course and the
vocational iMedia Certificate (GCSE level). The GCSE has a 40%
theory and a 60% coursework element, and the iMedia is 100%

certificates on offer to students where appropriate. In addition Key
Stage 4 students can extend their ICT skills and qualifications by
undertaking the ECDL (European Computer Driving License) course
and/or following the Short Course in GCSE ICT. Both of these courses
run after school and are available to students who have not opted
for KS4 ICT.
Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form, students are able to undertake the
Advanced GCE in ICT. This course can be taken as a three-unit AS
(Advanced Subsidiary) or a six-module A2 course run over the two
years. In addition, students study for the ICT Key Skills
qualification. A vocational level 2 qualification is also available,
which is worth 4 GCSE’s, the ICT GNVQ Intermediate.
Hardware
Chipping Sodbury School has an extensive range of computer hardware
available to the students, allowing access to one machine per
student during lessons, which take place in one of the five
networked ICT suites on the site, all of which have data projectors
and Internet connections. The school’s Broadband connection allows
for simultaneous high-speed access to the Internet. In addition to
the ICT suites, there is also ICT access in the library for student
