The building is nearing completion and is expected to be handed over to the school by the end of the summer term, ready for use by students iand the wider community in the autumn term.

March 2010
With the improvement in the weather, progress on the sports centre has been good over the past few weeks. The roof is complete, external render is being applied, and inside the building walls are being plastered and internal services installed.

The artificial grass pitch is now available for use by the community and a number of local sports clubs/groups have booked the pitch for their regular training sessions.
The pitch is also in use by students during the school day.
The sports centre building work is progressing well, despite the wet weather in December and the cold start to the new year. The roof will be finished this month and further work will continue throughout January to make the building watertight before the internal fix can begin. Most of the external and all of the internal block-work has been completed.

Over the summer holidays a great deal of progress has been made with the construction of our new sports hall and artificial grass pitch. As planned, the caretaker’s bungalow and old gym have been demolished, a new car park is now in place and the steel frame of the sports hall is up.

Work will continue as scheduled during the autumn term, with the pitch expected to be completed as planned by November.

June 2009
Wates Group Ltd, a national construction company, has been awarded the contract to build the new sports hall and artificial grass pitch. Work started on the 24 June 2009 and will continue through the rest of this year and into 2010.

By the end of the summer holidays, the old gym will have been demolished, a new car park built in its place, and the steel frame of the sports hall will be up. In the meantime, work on the pitch will continue, with an estimated completion date of October/November 2009.

Further updates on the progress of the project, together with photographs, will appear here in due course.

February 2009
The School is delighted to announce that the Football Foundation has awarded the school £800,000 towards our new sports hall and artificial grass pitch. Now that the Football Foundation have confirmed their funding for the project we have all the money required to proceed. Invitations to tender will shortly be issued to interested contractors. Once a contractor has been appointed we will be able to confirm a start date on site. This is likely to be during June 2009.

January 2009
We are very close to receiving the final decision from the Football Foundation on our bid for funding to develop the artificial grass pitch. Once this has been received and funding confirmed, the project team will seek tenders from contractors to undertake the work. Tender documents and specifications are almost complete. At present, we anticipate the work on the AGP will start in April or May 2009. The project will progress in phases, including demolition of the old gym and site clearance during the 2009 summer holiday, and initial groundwork for the sports hall taking place at the same time. If the project proceeds as planned, the AGP will be available for use towards the end of 2009, with the sports hall completed in the spring of 2010.
